Beautiful handmade quilts, made from discarded saris sewn together by local women, using a centuries-old embroidery technique and a running stitch called the kantha. The word is derived from the Sanskrit for rags, and the practice, some say, dates back to the time of Buddha.
The result is a collection of beautiful, unique quilted throws and bedspreads that are sure to become lifelong treasures.
We have a stunning collection in a great range of colours. We recommend that you call the London shop on 020 8748 2264 to discuss your needs.
The quilts are produced by a group of 100 local women who are paid twice the market rate for their work. The work is organised by a British man who has used the income to help fund homes for handicapped children in Calcutta.
The quilts are made entirely from reclaimed fabrics and handstitched
