These mugs and jugs are beautifully handmade by Wonki Ware in South Africa.

The production process of each piece of this sensitively worked pottery is around three weeks. The end result is a unique item with charming imperfections and variations in shapes and sizes.

The clay has been carefully sourced to produce a strong, non-porous stoneware product. It is dishwasher, microwave and oven proof making this an extremely versatile product that can be used on a daily basis.

Why We Love This

Wonki Ware provides employment for people from disadvantaged backgrounds in South Africa. Raw clay is dug up from the southern coast of Africa which is then shaped and left to dry for five days in the sunshine. It then undergoes its first firing in a kiln to turn the clay to a hard rough bisque product. Once cooled the bisque is sanded and cleaned, making it ready for decorating and glazing. The glazed pot is then put back in the kiln for the final firing which takes approximately three days to reach the right temperature and cool down. The end product is a fashionable and hardwearing piece of pottery. Due to the handmade nature of these products no two are exactly the same, which gives them an individual beauty.
